THE BEGINNING
Charterleague began in 1995 in a completely different format to the one known today. Seasons would take place over the period of a month and entrants would be required to predict scorelines to Premiership football matches with three points being awarded for a correct prediction and one point being awarded for a correct result prediction. This format lasted for two real football seasons until 1997, and at one time contained 46 participants. The cost of each season was just £2.
THE REINVENTION
Charterleague returned in 1999 in the format that we know today. Selections were made in the Green Man public house in Takeley, Essex and participants would contribute 50p a week to the prize fund. On the final day of the season, competitors would gather at the pub and watch the crucial last day results unfold with a beer in their hand. This period lasted for two seasons until 2001.
THE RE-EMERGENCE
In 2006 the Charterleague went online and restarted after a five year hiatus. It is my sincere hope that I can continue it for as long as possible.
